We took the road less traveled, and it totally paid off. The coach was more luxurious than I’d hoped, and I managed to nap before arriving. Once there, I was speechless. These temples aren’t just big — they’re full of energy. I couldn’t stop staring at the faces carved in stone, so full of character. The lake, the history, the quiet desert… it all felt magical ✨

A modern ride to ancient marvels
The coach had USB ports and was much nicer than I expected for a desert drive. We cruised smoothly, and the air con saved us from the heat. The temples themselves? Absolutely stunning. I focused more on the interior — the painted walls, the hieroglyphics still holding color after centuries — it’s wild how much survived.

Sunrise departure, sunset memories 🌅
We were picked up in the early morning and left the city lights behind. I actually enjoyed watching the desert change colors as the sun rose. By the time we reached Abu Simbel, the lighting was perfect for photos. The temples looked golden and alive. I spent extra time just walking along the edge of the lake after the tour. Such a peaceful place.

The journey from Aswan to Abu Simbel was calm and almost meditative. You start in a bustling city, and a few hours later you’re standing in a world of pharaohs. Our guide told us how they moved the temples to avoid flooding — it made me respect the effort even more. The view of the lake behind the temples is photo-perfect 📸

There’s something humbling about standing in front of a structure that’s over 3,000 years old and still standing strong. I loved the smaller temple for Queen Nefertari just as much — the detail in the carvings is unreal. The bus ride was fine, smooth roads, and the seats were comfortable. Pack snacks, though — no

The ride from Aswan was longer than expected, but the coach had cold A/C and we made a couple of quick stops for coffee. It was cool seeing small desert villages on the way. When we reached the temples, I was in awe. They’re both grand and peaceful. Don’t forget your hat and sunscreen — the sun out there is no joke ☀️
Nancy Lou Barker –
I’d read about Abu Simbel in books, but nothing prepared me for seeing it in real life. The trip was well-organized, and the coach was clean and modern. Once we got there, I was amazed by how perfectly aligned the temple is with the sun during specific times of the year — our guide explained it all brilliantly. The lake makes a beautiful backdrop, too.
Ricky Talbot –
Driving through the desert for a few hours might sound dull, but with good company and a cool coach, it flew by. The highlight was obviously the temples — standing there, it’s hard to believe humans made them thousands of years ago. The statues of Ramses II feel alive. I didn’t expect to be this impressed, but I couldn’t stop taking pictures 😍
Loretta Mae Jenkins –
A peaceful morning drive into Egypt’s deep past
We left before the sun came up, and the coach had great air conditioning, which made the early ride more enjoyable. Watching the sunrise across the desert was something else — a golden glow over the sands. When we arrived at Abu Simbel, the sheer size of the temples was breathtaking. Our guide gave great insights without overwhelming us. There’s a calmness to the place you don’t expect.

Long scenic drive with ancient wonders waiting at the end
The coach ride from Aswan to Abu Simbel was early but surprisingly comfy — I slept part of the way and woke up to the desert stretching for miles. Seeing the two temples emerge near Lake Nasser felt like a movie scene. The temples are enormous, with intricate carvings of Ramses II and gods towering over you. What blew my mind is how they relocated them — piece by piece — to save them from the water. If you love history, this is a real treat.
