  Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Aswan Embarkation, Kalabsha & Beit El Wali

Day 1: Aswan Embarkation, Kalabsha & Beit El Wali Sailing South to Ancient Temples Upon boarding the elegant SAÏ Dahabiya in Aswan, your journey south across Lake Nasser begins immediately. Kalabsha & Beit El Wali: Lunch is served on board as the ship sails toward the sites of Kalabsha Temple and Beit el Wali. Kalabsha, originally known as Mandoulis during the Roman era, was rescued and moved from its original city location. Beit el Wali ("House of the Saint") is a rock-cut temple carved during the reign of the great Pharaoh Ramses II. Overnight Mooring: As the day ends, you will anchor at Khour El Ghazal. Enjoy a starlit dinner on board before retiring for the night.

  2. Day 2: Wadi El Seboua, Dakka & Nubian Nature

Day 2: Wadi El Seboua, Dakka & Nubian Nature Relocated Wonders and Wildlife Enjoy breakfast on board as the SAÏ Dahabiya resumes its navigation, sailing past areas known for natural beauty. Desert Views & Birdlife: During the sailing, you will pass the Abu Steta and Maria regions. The Abu Steta desert is known for its golden sand dunes and exotic birds—including Pelicans, Cormorants, and Flamingos—that congregate in small lagoons during certain seasons. UNESCO Sites: The day focuses on three beautifully relocated temples: Wadi El Seboua, Dakka, and Meharraqa. Wadi El Seboua ("Valley of the Lions") was built by Pharaoh Ramses II and dedicated to Amun-Re and Ra, accessed via a pathway of sphinxes. Dakka (Pselchis) was originally built by the Nubian king Ergamenes II and Ptolemy II, and later refurbished by Roman Emperors Augustus and Tiberius. Afternoon Sailing: Following lunch, you will sail towards Wadi El Arab, one of the most tranquil bays on the Nubian Lake. The SAÏ Dahabiya will then move toward Amada Temple, passing local fishermen’s houses. Occasionally, crocodiles can be spotted surfacing for sunlight near this route (in season). Overnight Mooring: After a quiet sunset, the SAÏ Dahabiya anchors at Amada for the night. Dinner is served on board.

  3. Day 3: Amada, El Derr, Pennout & Kasr Ibrim

Day 3: Amada, El Derr, Pennout & Kasr Ibrim Exploring the Oldest Temples Breakfast on board precedes a morning dedicated to more significant ancient sites: Temple Cluster: Visit the temples of Amada, Pennout, and El Derr: Amada Temple is considered one of the most interesting in Nubia, built by Kings Thoutmosis III and Amenophis II. El Derr Temple, dating back to the time of Ramses II, was dedicated to the God Amon and later served as a church during the Coptic Era. Tomb of Pennout was meticulously cut and moved block by block from the village of Aniba. Kasr Ibrim: Return to the SAÏ Dahabiya for lunch. The boat will then set a course for Kasr Ibrim (Ibrim Palace). Overnight Mooring: Dinner and the night will be spent anchored near the region of Kasr Ibrim.

  4. Day 4: Kasr Ibrim & Abu Simbel Arrival

Day 4: Kasr Ibrim & Abu Simbel Arrival The Unmoved Fortress and the Colossi Enjoy breakfast on board before beginning the day's historical visits. Kasr Ibrim: You will visit Kasr Ibrim, the single monument on Lake Nasser that remains unmoved from its original location. Once an Ottoman fortress, it contains a unique selection of remains from Egypt’s Christian and Islamic periods, offering a characteristic blend of cultural artifacts. Final Sail: Following lunch, the SAÏ Dahabiya ventures through the Masmas area, home to numerous Nubian villages. Soon, the immense figures of the Abu Simbel Temples will protrude from the horizon, signifying the stunning culmination of your journey. Evening Option: As night falls, you have the option of attending the famous Sound and Light Show performed in front of the colossal temples. Overnight Mooring: Dinner and the night are spent anchored near the magnificent Abu Simbel site.

  5. Day 5: Abu Simbel Exploration & Check-Out

Day 5: Abu Simbel Exploration & Check-Out The Great Temples of Ramses II After breakfast, the morning is dedicated entirely to exploring the vast wonders of the Abu Simbel Temples. Abu Simbel Temples: You will visit the twin temples of Ramses II and his beautiful wife Nefertari. These colossal structures, carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC, took two decades to build and are dedicated to the gods Amun, Ra-Horakhty, and Ptah. The Great Temple is widely considered the grandest and most beautiful of the temples commissioned by Ramses II, commemorating his victory at the Battle of Kadesh. Check-Out: Following the temple visit, you will check out from the SAÏ Dahabiya and be assisted with your onward travel arrangements from Abu Simbel.

The SAÏ Vessel: Craftsmanship, Elegance, and Eco-Consciousness

The SAÏ is a vessel born of dedication and traditional craftsmanship. Its name is inspired by the silt island of SAÏ in Upper Nubia (Northern Sudan), an area rich with unfortunately unexploited archaeological sites.

Artisanal Design and Rustic Charm

Constructed entirely of wood over five years, the SAÏ is an artisanal masterpiece. It boasts a distinctively rustic and elegant aesthetic, creating a cozy, authentic atmosphere onboard.

  • Accommodation: Measuring 26 meters in length and 6.5 meters wide, the Dahabiya comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests in six luxurious, two-passenger cabins.
    • Four cabins are located on the main deck.
    • The remaining two are found upstairs and feature the exclusive addition of private terraces, offering stunning, intimate views of Lake Nasser.
  • Interiors: All cabins include private bathrooms. The common areas, especially the lounge bar and restaurant, are inspired by traditional Nubian style, providing an atmosphere of elegant simplicity.

Commitment to the Environment

The SAÏ Dahabiya promotes ecotourism in this emerging region of southern Egypt. The vessel’s design utilizes a cruising speed that consumes a minimum of energy, allowing us to protect the environment as much as possible. It is equipped with a generator for essential power and solar panels that provide clean 220V electricity both day and night.

Nubia Cruising: A Nature and History Safari

The banks of Lake Nasser, largely inaccessible by road, offer an unexplored paradise. This is not just a cruise; it’s a safari cruise that allows us to walk along the shores and sneak into untouched corners that big boats never reach.

Wildlife and Birdwatching

The vast lake is a sanctuary for rare flora and fauna, making it ideal for birdwatchers and nature lovers, particularly during the winter period. Early mornings are magical, offering sights of dozens of species of migratory birds, including the magnificent white pelican, the black kite, the egret, the Nubian goose, and the Ibis. This connection with nature is incredibly conducive to meditation, relaxation, and Yoga.

The History of the Black Pharaohs

The crossing of Lake Nubia allows us to discover the history of a great civilization whose kings ruled Egypt for several centuries. The famous temples of Nubia—which you will visit on the SAI Dahabiya 5 Days Aswan to Abu Simbel cruise—were heroically saved from the waters with the help of UNESCO following the construction of the Aswan High Dam. This voyage lets you discover the compelling history of Nubia and its powerful kings and queens of the Black Pharaohs.
